self image.

Last week I attempted to do an outfit post for my blog. I learned a few things. I have an image in my head of what I look like, that image is far from the truth. I’ve had two kids and I’m defiantly not 19 anymore. My clothes are really just kind of sad excuse for drapery. My husband calls them “frumptastic.” It’s so true; I have no idea how to dress my current body. Seeing myself like that made me pretty sad, how did I let myself go so bad? I want to feel good about myself inside and out.

I believe that beauty really does come from within. A person who isn’t all that attractive on the outside can be made beautiful by a kind a generous heart. A beautiful person can become ugly if they have a hard and shallow heart. I think a lot of people feel that way about beauty even if they don’t realize it. Say a woman goes on a first date with a man who she is extremely attracted too. She is excited for their evening together and then she starts to get to know him. Suddenly he isn’t so attractive to her anymore. She probably is thinking “If he talking about his expensive car and work out routine on more time I’m going to scream.” I guess they won’t be having a second date.

Although it is important to have a beautiful heart I think it is also important to feel beautiful on the outside. Everyone feels beautiful in their own special way. What I think is pretty and what you think is pretty might be two completely different things, and that’s okay. As long as I have confidence in whatever it is. Some people might only feel comfortable wearing glasses; others might not be caught dead out of the house without makeup on. It’s all a personal preference. If you really feel good about the way you look it will show and really make a difference in your own personal attitude.

The way you carry yourself through life is important. If you stand tall and walk with pride you will command the respect that you deserve. If you walk around hunched over staring at the ground, you will most likely be looked over. Think about the way you walk around in your daily life. Do you show how you really feel about yourself? Or are you just slithering around trying to be seen.

It isn’t easy to feel good about the way you look. Even the most beautiful of people can feel like they look like a “0.” Maybe it’s a good idea to take a deep look into your closet and yourself. See what’s in there that you should discard and what you can update with that will make you feel like a million bucks all the time.

I’m planning on taking steps to make myself not only feel good on the inside but on the outside too. What are you going to do?

  1. Great post! It's definitely something I'm struggling with at the moment and I think a lot of people are as well. Well said and thanks for linking up :)

  2. oh yes beautiful people on the outside can easily turn instantly ugly. i know a few and it saddens me. my sister in law is kinda in the same slump too as she just had a baby. i think it takes practice on knowing what looks good on you. and taking risks but most important feeling comfortable in whatever you are wearing because at the end of the day it is just clothes that can be taken off and what is left is you which is the most important.

  3. I know just how you feel. We just have to focus on our strengths and remember that we could be ugly inside (so seemingly outside to a lot of people) or just be who we are and work on our confidence and get there slowly but surely!
Great job, needed to read this one today. =]

  4. Wonderful post! I feel that way when I shop for clothes! But I am learning to accept the new me. I am also trying to carry myself like I think I look attractive. But really it is all about the personality anyways!

  5. so true! i can relate to the post-baby slump, too. j is 10 months old and i still have about 10 lbs to lose. my body is totally different than it was 3 years ago though. i was just looking for some new clothes online tonight. time to clean out my closet, sell/donate the too-big stuff and find some nicer pieces. i want my outside to reflect what i feel inside and to be honest, looking nice on the outside helps me feel better about myself too!
