the smell of burning wood... yum...

I am so thankful for a wonderful mother’s day, really the whole weekend. It started out with me being able to head out on my own and attended First Friday, which is always fun thanks for the wonderful ladies of Butter Toast Boutique. Saturday morning I got what I wanted for mother’s day. The only thing I asked for was to go out for waffles! Aurora and I spent the rest of the day running errands and hitting the pool. Sunday was pretty quiet and typical. I enjoy just hanging out with my family; I really don’t need anything special. I did get to play with my new toy!

I finally got myself a wood burning tool! I’ve wanted to try this forever. I don’t really know why. I just think it’s so different and could be really fun. It’s not as easy as it looks though! It was weird to hold the tool so far away from the point. I didn’t screw the tip in tight enough the first round so it kept wiggling too. Also, every time I hit a part of the grain my point would get stuck, I need to work on that. I’m happy to say I didn’t burn myself too badly either. I touched the tip to check if it was cool yet and well, it wasn’t! Ouch! I learned my lesson pretty quick. Piston, our crazy dog, also tried to lick it one point. Thankfully I grabbed him in time; he’s not the brightest boxer in the world.

I’m excited to work on more projects with my wood burner. I love the smell! I can’t help myself. It reminds me of a camp fire, yum! I want to go out right now and buy more wood to doodle on! The best part is I used stamps to create the designs. That was probably the easiest part. I plan on branching out but I need a lot of practice first!

Do you have any new craft endeavors you’re working on perfecting?

weekend trip: canyon lake, az

This weekend was nice and relaxing. A few weekends ago we made a short drive to Canyon Creek Lake, AZ to check it out. I’m so glad we did. This past Saturday we set out prepared. We brought a cooler full of a picnic lunch and other goodies. Aurora really enjoyed feeding the ducks and just playing new the water. Marc and I enjoy the peaceful place we had found. We are defiantly going to be going back there more often. Sometimes it’s just nice to get away, even if it’s just for a few hours.

The drive in is so beautiful.

You know I must have really been enjoying myself. I loaded my photos onto my computer and realized that I didn't even take that many pictures, which is very rare for me. I was way to distracted by how peaceful it was there to grab my camera.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend as well! What were you up too?

Day Trip to Sedona.

Yesturday was a beautiful day in Arizona to take a nice little day trip. Our good friend, Sam, is in town and has never really been to this part of the country before. One of the most amazing places I've been to is Sedona, AZ. Just driving into this town is beautiful. I've heard tt is consider the very end piece of the Grand Canyon so I can only image what that must look like. We need to make a trek to the Grand Canyon sometime in the futre that's for sure.

Driving into Sedona

Anything we go we stop at Slide Rock Park. The water was rushing pretty hard, but on a calm day you'll see tons of people and family sliding down the smooth stones in the cool water.

The walk down to slide rock.

At the water.

Aurora, enjoying the view.

Marc taking in the sencery.

Sam, taking a breath.

I love the shops in Sedona, it's a total artist community. There are typical tourists shops as well as art galleries, handmade boutique, and some great food.

Sam getting her fortune told by Sedona Sam in town.

Our view at lunch.

We've been having a blast, Aurora couldn't be having more fun, and I couldn't be more sore! The weekend isn't over yet, can't wait for more fun!

Enjoy everybody!
